Pantar, Lanao Del Norte – The people of Marawi has been greatly affected due to the on-going armed conflict between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and affiliated militants of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS), including the Maute and Abu Sayyaf Salafi jihadist groups. People were left homeless leading them to the only shelter they can run to: Evacuation Centers, Gyms and Public Schools in the nearby barangay where they are much safer.
Safety and fear has been the major constraint of other private companies and organizations in going to areas where our Muslim brothers and sisters have been situated. But the brave and empowered women of SMILES Foundation, together with the CEO of Skills Mastery Institute (SMI), Dr. Irene Floro, in partnership with the Non-Government Units and Barangay Officials of Pantar, Lanao del Norte, we have successfully delivered and gave away relief goods to more than 138 families now temporarily living in Tarbiah Islamic Institute of Pantar West, Pantar Lanao del Norte last June 12, 2017. The families received 3 kls. rice, canned goods, noodles, soap, shampoo and water from kind hearted donors.
More than 130 Families are congesting in this Public School at Pantar, where one Family has 4-9 children all crowding in one room with 2-3 more families altogether.
The oldest evacuee in Pantar
A glimpse of the divisioned rooms where the evacuees are confined, with no enough water supply and electricity.
Sadly, there’s only one comfort room available to be used for all of the evacuees.
With everything that’s going on today, these innocent
children are the one’s that are mostly affected.
