Training, Monitoring, and Allowance Distribution

Traveling to El Salvador, Misamis Oriental from Cagayan de Oro City would only take 15-20 minutes of your time, but making it through the mountain top of Brgy. San Francisco de Asis would take you another 15-20 minutes (18kms) from El Salvador City. Not to mention the narrow and rough road that we have to pass through. But the long and tiring ride was all worth it. Waiting at their barangay hall were the 20 DSWD-SLP beneficiaries all ready to show their agri-crops farm and to receive their skills training allowance, last September 16, 2017, 10AM.

Before we gave them their 2 weeks allowance of P1,000, the beneficiaries proudly showed us theiir plantation of different crops such as Alugbati and Turmeric. The beneficiaries are very much excited to see their crops grow and be soon harvested to be sold to their neighbors and even in nearby barangays. SMI President and CEO, Dr. Irene Floro harvested some alugbati, which is her favorite vegetable and and ate it raw while dipping in a spicy vinegar sauce. The beneficiaries were amazed and shocked to know that alugbati can be eaten raw, but Dr. Irene Floro just smiled and invited them to try it out.

Rightly after we visited their vegetable plantation, the beneficiaries received their allowances and we ended our activity with a sumptuous lunch prepared by the beneficiaries themselves, our favorite "Adobong Bisayang Manok", with raw alugbati again on the sides.
